Our Stories: S'edav Va'aki & the O'odham

10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Downtown Library

Description

Join us for a presentation on S'edav Va'aki, a pre-contact archaeological site and National Historic Landmark located near the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. It includes a prehistoric platform mound and irrigation canals. Museum staff will share their new book on these ancient Sonoran Desert farmers and canal builders, as well as the history behind the S'edav Va'aki (formerly Pueblo Grande) Museum. Dig deeper into the story of the Ancestral O'Odham (previously called the Hohokam), the people who built one of the largest and most sophisticated canal systems in the New World, prior to the coming of Europeans.

The book S'edav Va'aki & the O'odham is written for the general public, and explores how these desert farmers thrived for millennia in the Sonoran Desert of south central Arizona.

Our Stories presents diverse speakers who share unique Arizona and local history topics to a general audience throughout the year. This series is produced by the Chandler Museum and the Chandler Public Library, with support from the Friends of the Chandler Public Library.
